Dara Freiberg Named Chief Executive Officer of the Gordon JCC

The Gordon Jewish Community Center Board of Directors has named Dara Freiberg the organization’s new chief executive officer following an extensive national search conducted with Kittleman & Associates.

Freiberg, who previously served as the Gordon JCC’s interim executive director since January, stood out throughout the search process for her strategic vision, collaborative leadership and deep commitment to building community. In her new role, she will lead the organization as it continues serving individuals and families throughout Nashville, building on its more than 120-year history.

“Dara brings the leadership, vision, and collaborative spirit that the Gordon JCC needs for this next chapter,” said Joel Abramson, chair of the search committee. “She understands that the J is much more than a facility. It is a place where people build relationships, families grow, and our community comes together. I am excited to see what we will accomplish together.”

The selection included input from committee members, community leaders, stakeholders, and staff. As part of the transition, the Board also approved changing the organization’s chief executive title from executive director to CEO. The updated title better reflects the scope and complexity of the position while aligning the Gordon JCC with peer Jewish Community Centers across North America.

Dara served as the membership and development director at the J from 2015-2022 and more recently as president of the Board of Directors before resigning from the position to take on the interim executive director role.

Under Freiberg's leadership, the Gordon JCC will continue its mission of creating a welcoming community where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect, grow and belong. Her appointment, along with the rollout of a new strategic plan, marks an exciting new chapter for the organization and the community it serves.
