Vivian Charlotte Saterstrom will become a bat mitzvah on September 5, at 11 a.m. at The Temple.
She was born on September 2, 2013 in Tucson, Arizona. Vivian’s parents are Julia and Noah Saterstrom. Vivian’s grandparents are Anna and Roger Saterstrom of Nashville, Tennessee and Linda and Joseph Gordon of Mount Vernon, New York.
Vivian’s mitzvah project is crocheting blankets to donate to Project Linus, an organization that provides handmade blankets to children ages 0–18 in the United States who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Vivian comes from a family of crafters, knitters, sewers, and crocheters on both sides of their family tree.
Vivian is in the eighth grade at Bellevue Middle School and loves musical theatre, crochet and social justice.
Ruby Margot Orley will become a bat mitzvah on Saturday, September 19, at 11 a.m. at the Temple.
She was born on August 30, 2013, in New York, New York. Her parents are Laurel and Ethan Orley. Her grandparents are Nancy Kozeradsky of Cresskill, New Jersey, Klari Orley of Karkur, Israel and Paola and Geoffrey Orley of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
For her mitzvah project, Ruby chose a project that is especially meaningful to her. Earlier this summer, her 12 year old cousin Maya was diagnosed with leukemia. Watching Maya begin treatment inspired Ruby to create Courage Kits- care packages filled with comforting and fun items for children going through leukemia treatment. Each kit will include things like games, crafts, cozy items, and handwritten notes of encouragement, with the hope of bringing a little comfort, hope, and a smile to a child on a difficult day. All the kits will go to the hospital in Detroit where Ruby’s cousin is getting treatment.
Ruby is in the seventh grade at Harding Academy. She enjoys tennis, art, piano, soccer and music.
Spencer Marshall Katz will become a bar mitzvah on Saturday, September 26, at 11 a.m. at The Temple.
He was born on December 23, 2013, in Nashville, Tennessee. His parents are Amy and Brian Katz. His grandparents are Nanette and Mel Cohen of Monroe, Louisiana and Cindy and Buz Katz of Memphis, Tennessee.
For his mitzvah project, Spencer has been giving monthly piano performances for the residents at Abe's Garden.
Spencer is in the seventh grade at Montgomery Bell Academy. He enjoys reading, piano, Jacobs Camp, cross country, ultimate frisbee and basketball.
