Where Creativity Begins—No Experience Required

One of the best kept secrets in Nashville is what's happening at The Madeline Pargh Art Studio. You don't need to have any talent to begin as the amazing teachers will explain everything from hot and cold colors and how to mix them to get the colors you need. The teachers choose projects to meet your talents.

Personally, starting art class after shoulder surgery, I was limited to activities I could participate in. Kim Lane introduced me to watercolors and later acrylic classes. It's so much fun playing like you're a kid again. It's amazing how many techniques one can learn to make whatever your heart desires.  Another upside to taking an art class is that you look at art differently as it creates new dimensions to your appreciation of art.

Below are some of the comments from different students:

“Picasso said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."  Whether you could use a dusting on a regular basis or a one-time class workshop, art can bring to life one of those quiet "glimmers" of time from the soul.  And you don't have to be a member of the GJCC to enjoy a class.  I took a single afternoon workshop on book binding from Terry Korman (thank you Terry).  All supplies were provided and fun was had building together pages along with hard covers into small books that can be gifted, written in, journaled in, drawn in, painted in and such. Definitely something I would do again.“ Sharon Morrow

"Tuesday art classes are really fun!  I've been painting with Rhonda for about 12 years.  I've made so much progress in learning about perspective, color and many other things.  In addition, the friendships I've formed with other class members are really special.  Tuesdays are a bright spot in my week."  Wanda Fowler

“Taking Kim Lane’s art classes is such a fun and enjoyable experience.  I have learned so much from her during the process. She is a fabulous teacher and her encouragement really helped my confidence. Plus, the camaraderie in the classes make it truly fun.” Lisa DiScenza

"Learning art means showing your creativity.  Taking lessons from Rhonda is exciting.  She has helped release and unleash creativity in me that has laid dormant."

"I've always loved drawing, but I've not painted much over the years.  In the 5th grade my teacher gave me postcards of the NC State Capital to color and it came out pretty good.  I found out that I love blending colors.  After a few painting classes my friend urged me to take classes from Rhonda.  I'm so glad I did!  This encouraged me and helped me when I was ready to throw painting away!  So now I'm enjoying a new hobby!"  Thank you Rhonda!  Margaret Frazier

"The Madeline PArgh Arts and Crafts Center at the JCC has the most amazing art studio.  Light streams in from all the windows and encourages me to relax and enjoy the experience of learning how to oil paint.  Every Tuesday art class is filled with laughter and friendly painters.  I just love this opportunity.  Thank you, Rhonda." Therese Tlapek

"As a small child, I enjoyed drawing and coloring. When I began high school the art teacher selected 12 students to meet outside of school hours to learn to oil paint. Those lessons and our art history classes led me to a great interest in art. I began seriously painting classes with Rhonda about 12 years ago.  She is a highlight of my life." Lorna Graff

"The acrylic class and Kim Lane rekindled my love of creating.  Great experience, great people, I'll be back!"  Steve Jeffries

"The art center at the JCC is a warm and welcoming environment for new and experienced artists.  I have taken water color and acrylic classes as well as one day workshops with Kim Lane and thoroughly enjoyed all."  Maureen McTernan
