The Gordon Jewish Community Center’s Mazel Tov Players will present The Nerd, a comedy by Larry Shue, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the Gordon JCC Auditorium.
The play centers on Willum Cubbert, an aspiring architect living in Terre Haute, Indiana, who believes he owes his life to a fellow Vietnam veteran, Rick Stedman—someone he has never met but has long promised lifelong gratitude. When Rick unexpectedly arrives at Willum’s apartment during his 44th birthday celebration, Willum is initially delighted. However, his excitement quickly fades as Rick proves to be socially inept, tactless, and entirely unaware of the disruption he causes. Rick’s extended stay leads to a series of increasingly comic and chaotic situations, testing Willum’s patience and providing nonstop humor for the audience.
There will be two performances, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Gordon JCC on the day of the event.
