Finding Home in Nashville

I’ve come to a surprising realization: I’ve been a Northeastern imposter all my life. It turns out I was destined for the South—right here in Nashville, Tennessee. When people ask how I’m adjusting, my answer is simple: fell hard, and I fell fast. I found home.

As I reflect on the past six months, gratitude fills my heart for those who brought me to Nashville to serve as CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville. My early days were a whirlwind of meetings—with community members, volunteers, donors, clergy, elected officials, academic leaders, interfaith partners, and colleagues. Each encounter was marked by the unmistakable warmth and hospitality that define this region: openness, kindness, and a genuine spirit of welcome.

Some of the highlights I’ve experienced so far include our incredible campaign event featuring Alison Lebovitz, responding to antisemitic incidents and defeating the Kol Nidre eve anti-Israel resolution at city council, securing funding for a much needed community security director through the JFNA LiveSecure program, strengthening Women’s Philanthropy, refocusing on the Jewish Foundation, highlighting Hadera-Eiron, our partnership region in Israel, building new interfaith relationships with tribal and Mormon leaders and Bishop Spalding of the Catholic diocese, facilitating a conversation on Israel, working with our incredibly dedicated volunteer and professional teams, representing Nashville at the Jewish Federations General Assembly and representing the Jewish community to the public through local media.

And yet, I know I’ve only begun to scratch the surface.

My knowledge of this incredible community is still incomplete. When I walk into a program, event, or religious service, there are too many faces I don’t yet know. That’s where you come in. I want to know you—and the people you think I should know. That invitation extends beyond the Jewish community because building bridges strengthens us all.

Looking ahead, I hope you’ll join us for the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 25, 2026. We’re introducing a fresh, fun format with a delicious brunch and the soulful sounds of Nefesh Mountain, blending bluegrass and Jewish music in a way that’s uniquely Nashville. When you come, please say hello—I’d love to meet you in person.

In the meantime, my door (and inbox) is always open. You can reach me anytime at judy@jewishnashville.org

Please never hesitate to reach out. Together, let’s continue building a vibrant, connected community.
